Fans will get a chance to meet the band that afternoon and get their Magnum memorabilia signed at a special meet and greet session at Oldies Unlimited, in Darlaston Street, Wolverhampton from 3pm.

The tour is in support of the band’s 15th studio album, Into The Valley of the Moonking, and Magnum’s songwriter and guitarist Tony Clarkin said he was looking forward to taking half a dozen or so new songs on the road along with a set packed with Magnum classics.

“We’re hitting Scandanavia, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, Denmark and then back to the UK,” he said.

“The set has changed around quite a lot from the last time. I’m looking forward to this set, it sounds really good.

Clarkin added: “There are certain places you go in the world where the audience are all vibrant, it seems, Germany especially. And Wolverhampton is one of those places too.”

  • Magnum’s European tour calls in at Wulfrun Hall, Wolverhampton, on October 31, 2009. Tickets cost £18.50 plus booking fees. Support is from local band Liberty Lies.

Any chance of you featuring modern bands, or will we have to continue with people who last sold a record in 1978?

Magnum released their latest album this year (June to be exact) so they are current. And it is great to see a newspaper report on good bands rather than just the latest fad in music or some current trend. Younger bands do not equate necessarily to better bands.

Magnum are one of Britain’s best rock bands, and if there is any scandal it is that songwriter/guitarist Tony Clarkin has not been properly acknowledged and rewarded for his 30+ years of exemplary song writing.

Mark seems to think that Magnum have not sold any records since 1978. If thats the case, how come promoters in 35 European cities want them to play shows ? Just how big is the chip on Mark’s shoulder ?

    I’m not the first MArk – I’m a different one – honest.

There are loads of bands from the last 30 years still touring and releasing new music – not sure we’ll be seeing too many of the current artists still out there in 30 years. Rock on!

From what I’ve heard of them rather than calling themselves “Magnum” they should have called themselves “Spud Gun” much more fitting.
