Pair face jail for raid on son and mother
Friday 18th September 2009, 10:30AM BST.
Two men were today facing “significant” jail sentences after being convicted of robbing a Shropshire man and his 80-year-old mother in their home.
Anthony Wiggan, 23, of Spring Hill Crescent, Madeley, Telford, and Jolan Hall, 20, of Mannerley Lane, Overdale, Telford, were found guilty by a jury at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday.
Their co-defendants Delroy Wiggan, 20, of Glendale, Hadley, Telford, and Nythan Hadley, 24, of Parkdale, Hadley,Telford, were cleared of any involvement.
All four men had denied being involved in the robbery at the home of Robin Wilkinson and his mother Irene Wilkinson at Wellington Road, Muxton, in the early hours of November 5.
Judge Nicolas Mitchell adjourned the case for pre-sentence reports on Ant-hony Wiggan and Hall. He remanded them in custody.
Their trial, which started on September 7, heard how two masked men burst into Mr Wilkinson’s bedroom while he was asleep and attacked him. During the struggle he scratched one of his assailants’ faces.
His elderly mother was confronted by one of the attackers and ushered back into her bedroom. She said she had been “frightened to death” by the encounter.
More than £1,000, jewellery and an ornamental elephant were taken.
The prosecution alleged Hall and Anthony Wiggan were the masked men and they escaped in a car driven by Delroy Wiggan, who had also picked up Hadley.
But Delroy Wiggan said he had given the three men a lift to the area of the robbery and did not know it was being planned. Hadley told the court he had stayed with Delroy Wiggan in his car but did not know about the raid.
