Official statement on hospital
Friday 18th September 2009, 4:15PM BST.

NHS Telford and Wrekin, Shropshire County Primary Care Trust and the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust released a statement today on the future of the Princess Royal Hospital.
This is the full text.
“The local NHS in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin is looking at the findings of a study based on the work of senior local doctors, nurses and manager on options to ensure clinically safe and high quality NHS hospital services for the next five years, as well as the feasibility of options for a single site hospital in the longer term.
“The recommendations include that in the medium term the majority of services should remain at both the Princess Royal Hospital and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. This includes retaining an accident and emergency service at both hospitals.
“The findings suggest that in order to improve the quality of patient care a small number of services, especially for the most seriously ill and injured, should be concentrated at one hospital or the other. These include accident and emergency for the most serious cases, emergency surgery and inpatient paediatrics.
“The boards of the three local NHS organisations will meet next week to consider the report, and the PCT Boards will meet again in the near future to further consider the findings alongside proposals for the immediate term.
“No decisions will be made without prior public consultation.”
