Arts Alive is bringing a group of ten young men from Zimbabwe to Shropshire this September to perform in Whitchurch and Much Wenlock.

Umdumo Wesizwe which translates as ‘sound of a nation’ promise to mesmerise audiences with their harmonies and dancing routines as they sing of love, hope, worship, courtship and hardship.

“We love to bring international companies to rural areas,” said Sian Kerry of Arts Alive.

“Our events make a wide range of arts performances affordable and locally accessible, giving more people a chance to enjoy top class performers without paying a packet or travelling miles.”

The traditional, upbeat and energetic Zimbabwean music is known as “imbube”, a fusion of Afro pop, jazz, R ’n’ B, and reggae, and was born in the mines of South Africa.

Umdumo will also be performing the same great dance routines they performed at the famous WOMAD festival earlier this year.

The show is at The Talbot Theatre at Whitchurch Leisure Centre on Wednesday, September 16th, starting at 7.30pm.

On Saturday, September 19th, the group will perform at The Edge Arts Centre in Much Wenlock starting at 7.30pm.

As both shows are predicted to be popular it is recommended that you book in advance so you don’t miss this fantastic gig.
