County jobs boost

Shropshire today received a welcome jobs boost with the news that up to 100 posts have been created at two nursing homes and 20 positions could open up after the expansion of a convenience store.
Stretton Hall at All Stretton is due to open in October and will create 85 jobs, while offering 24-hour care for the elderly, mentally frail and young physically disabled.
And 10 new jobs will be secured at a Shrewsbury nursing home after it was granted planning permission to build a pioneering dementia day care unit.
The centre is being built at The Uplands at Oxon, Shrewsbury, and it is the first of its kind in the county.
Stretton Hall, which is owned by care provider Morris Care, has been converted from the former Stretton Hall Hotel and extended to create 50 en-suite bedrooms.
Morris Care’s chief executive, Margaret Maudsley, said: “There is a growing need for high quality nursing care in Shropshire which our new nursing home will meet. We are welcoming inquiries from anyone who would like to find out more about Stretton Hall and the excellent care provision it will offer to residents.”
Plans to expand West End Garage in Cleobury Mortimer were submitted to Shropshire Council this week.
The proposal from applicants Harry Tuffins includes basement storage, a manager’s apartment and improvements to the forecourt to include a car park, delivery area and jet wash.
