Ercall edge up — but still in mire

Monday 14th September 2009, 1:54PM BST.

bowlsChilds Ercall staggered off the bottom of the Furrows Shropshire Premier Bowls League – but their hopes of staying there in the final table are slimmer now, writes MALCOLM FLETCHER.

A 9-5 home win over fellow strugglers Ford Last night lifted Ercall two points above Bylet with just Friday’s final fixtures to go.

And with Childs Ercall away to Wrockwardiine Wood and Bylet at home to Castlefields, it’s the Bridgnorth club who will be more confident of avoiding the wooden spoon now.

Ford produced a spirited show at Ercall, Julian Cooke (21-7) and Phil Price – running out from 18-10 down – their winners in a hard fought shared first four.

Pete Bound, Kevin Jones (both 21-9) and Will Tarrel added to Ford’s haul and it took Ben Gibson’s 21-8 card at No 11 to secure a narrow eight chalk home win that keeps the pot boiling.
