Bird objectors facing defeat
Monday 14th September 2009, 11:51AM BST.
Controversial plans to rear game birds on a patch of north Shropshire land look set to be approved.
Thirty-nine people have objected to plans for Lostford Lane in Woollerton.
Their concerns include the visual impact they believe the change would bring, poor access to the site, highway safety, increased noise, smells, flies and rodents, and the potential impact on protected species and pollution of watercourses.
Shropshire councillors are being advised to approve the plans tomorrow.
A report says the proposed scheme also includes a store, bird rearing pens and a new area of hardstanding and access track.
The applicant is Cheshire Game Supplies, which breeds pheasants, partridges and ducks. The application says 85 to 90 per cent of the birds reared are sold for game shooting, the rest for food processing.
The report says the applicant operates from two different sites in north Shropshire. The availability of one of the sites is due to end shortly, meaning an alternative site is needed.
Members will discuss the plans at the meeting at Edinburgh House, Wem, at 2pm tomorrow.
