Man dies in cable tragedy
Saturday 12th September 2009, 10:05AM BST.
A man has died after being electrocuted at a showground on the Powys border.
The victim, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at Kington off the A44 shortly after 8pm yesterday despite desperate efforts to save him.
A lorry delivering goods to the show being held today is believed to have hit overhead live power cables.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Crews arrived to find a man who was lying on the floor, near to a lorry, and was in cardiac arrest. Resuscitation attempts were being made at the scene.
“The lorry was delivering equipment to the showground when it is believed it made contact with live overhead power cables.
“Crews took over resuscitation attempts and continued advanced life support.
“Firefighters, police and an off-duty GP worked together with ambulance crews to attempt to resuscitate the man but sadly, despite the best efforts of everyone, nothing could be done to save him.”
Dozens of households in Kington, Knighton and Presteigne are believed to have been left without power for about an hour.
