Food extravaganza set to be best yet
Saturday 12th September 2009, 11:08AM BST.
Bumper crowds descended on Ludlow today for the second day of the annual food festival. Organisers said the 15th annual event was on course to become the most successful yet.
Food and drink enthusiasts from across the UK have been flocking to the event.
Beth Heath, festival co-ordinator, said: “It’s been an amazing start but the Saturday and Sunday are usually the two busiest days, so we’re expecting to be rushed off our feet.
“The Saturday is always great fun because we judge a lot of the competitions, like the pork pie and sausage competitions.”
Ludlow Mayor Councillor Martin Taylor-Smith added that the festival highlighted the excellent community spirit of the town.
He said: “It’s a classical example of why we rely on volunteers. The event is run on voluntary effort, like so many other events in our town.”
Ludlow MP Philip Dunne was at the festival today, judging a number of food contests, and he praised organisers. He said: “It is a remarkable event and one that we can be proud of.”
The festival will continue tomorrow and Shropshire Star readers can get £1 off admission by taking along the coupon printed inside tonight’s newspaper in a four-page Ludlow Food Festival supplement.
Mrs Heath added that there was plenty more to look forward to tomorrow with exhibitions, workshops, demonstrators and more besides.
