Birmingham’s newest music venue erupted as the town’s own electro rock band, Editors, took to the stage of the O2 Academy in Bristol Street.

Editors thrilled Birmingham's new O2 Academy

Tom Smith and co were in dazzling form

With the smell of fresh paint and new carpets in the air, frontman Tom Smith proceeded to deliver a stunning vocal performance that literally blew the crowd and new multi million pound sound system away, bursting into An End Has A Start.

That fittingly saw the new auditorium bounce with a sea of crowd jumping and moshing that gave the previous venue its legendary atmosphere.

Rifling their way through a setlist of new tracks and old album favourites, including Munich and All Sparks, they continued to deliver a masterful performance that proved why the gothic and sometimes dark electro-rock sound that they have created is so well received.

The new look £5 million O2 Academy

It’s clear to see why Editors were chosen to open the glitzy new venue with their sheer energy and raw enthusiasm for producing music and tonight they showed why they are one of the best bands the Midlands has produced in many a year.

If you didn’t manage to get a ticket then fear not. On this form, they will be back for years to come.
