Conway tops for pitches at Bucks

AFC Telford United have been pitching it perfectly after groundsman Mick Conway landed a prestigious award.
Conway was named Football Conference FA Groundsman of the Year at a special awards ceremony in Windsor.
Conway has been in charge of the New Bucks Head playing surface for five years, during which time only two competitive matches have been postponed.
“It’s fantastic news for Mick and he thoroughly deserves it,” said Telford chairman Lee Carter.
“He’s beaten off 67 other groundsman from the three Blue Square divisions so it was tough to win.
“Lots of people have come here and commented on the quality of the pitch and that’s all been down to the work and commitment Mick puts in.
“The groundsman of Man City and Tottenham judged the award so it’s been decided by the experts.
“And when they came to our pitch it was at the end of last season when 81 matches had been played on it, which shows you the excellent standard of the pitch.”
Meanwhile, manager Rob Smith has revealed that the loan signings of Gavin Hurren and Stuart Nicholson from Tamworth are with a view to permanent signings.
The pair have joined for an initial month.
