All ready for Twenty plenty at Shrewsbury
Saturday 12th September 2009, 9:40AM BST.
Shropshire’s leading Birmingham League clubs bring the curtain down on their respective cricket seasons tomorrow, writes James Garrison.
The coloured clothing will be donned at Shrewsbury as the host club are joined by Wellington, Shifnal and St Georges for the Salop Leisure Twenty20 Knockout.
The competition has been postponed on two occasions already this season, and the quartet of clubs will all be without key players. Even so, Shrewsbury captain Ed Foster is predicting a day of excitement at London Road.
“All four teams will be keen to win it and it should be a good way to round off the season,” said captain Ed Foster.
“It’s the only chance to get the four highest ranked teams in Shropshire together so I’m sure it will be very competitive.”
Shrewsbury, who were set to secure a top half of the table premier division finish in their final league game at Knowle & Dorridge today, will enter the tournament as favourites.
And they will have the chance to lay down an early marker as they take on St Georges, who will have to do without skipper Matt Tilt, in the first semi-final at 10am.
Division one rivals Wellington and Shifnal go head-to-head at 1.15pm, with the two winners meeting in a 4.30pm final.
