Agony for Archibald

Saturday 12th September 2009, 9:58AM BST.

The agony goes on for Bylet and Archibald Worthington at the wrong end of the Furrows Shropshire Premier Bowls League – with just one game to go.

Both suffered decisive away defeats last night to be left anxiously awaitingÊthe outcome of tomorrow’s re-arranged game between fellow strugglers Childs Ercall and Ford (6.30pm).

Bylet, as most pundits expected,Êlost 11-3 (agg 61) at third-in the table St Georges.

The Bridgnorth club’s father and sonÊMick and Scott Harries, plus Paul Lill, were their winners as they joined Ford on 143 points.

That total is seven more than Ercall, but itÊwas lowly AWC who missed a great chance to pull right out of danger as they wasted a fine start at Bowring.

Andy Foster (21-10) and Dave Ridgway (21-14) won for the Whitchurch club in a shared first four.

And when Greg Fordham (21-7) and Paul SmithÊfollowed suit in the middle the Archie were 4-4 and only two shots down.

But they faded away to lose 10-4 (agg 32) as Bowring turned it on.

Elsewhere, Ifton hammered visiting Wem USC 12-2 (agg 67) with Gerwyn Davies the 21-7 star.

Newport had three winners in the middle to worry home side Bayley. But Tim Allen, Gino Farruggio and Steve Burroughs took the hosts to a 9-5 (agg 33) win.
