Police seize cannabis in raid
Thursday 10th September 2009, 2:28PM BST.
Police seized more than 100 cannabis plants capable of producing drugs with a street value of at least £40,000-a-year in an early morning raid on a house in Telford.
The plants, some of which were more than 6ft tall, were found yesterday in the living room of a house in Fifth Avenue, Ketley Bank.
Officers from the North Telford Local Policing Team who were acting on a tip-off discovered the haul shortly after 7am.
Chris Ammonds, Telford police spokesman, said: “On entering the property, officers discovered that the living room had been turned into a ‘cannabis factory’ and found more than 100 plants, some of which were over 6ft tall, growing on site.
“These plants have been seized by officers to aid their investigation.”
A 24-year-old man was arrested at the address on suspicion of the production of cannabis and he has since been bailed pending further inquiries.
Constable Vicky McGarry, local police officer for Ketley and Oakengates, said: “This warrant was executed as a result of information we received from the local community and we would encourage anyone who has any concerns regarding drug crimes to call us immediately.
“It is important that people call us with information, because it is ultimately their help that enables us to carry out operations and make arrests, therefore helping us to disrupt, prevent and detect crime.”
She said the raid was the latest in a number of drug warrants executed by police this year, one of which saw a huge cannabis factory uncovered at a house in Lower Park Drive, Shawbirch.
The factory, discovered on May 15, was believed to be linked to a UK drugs network.
