Sales boost for retailer

Wednesday 9th September 2009, 11:00AM BST.

Mid Wales-based Laura Ashley today announced a hike in sales of more than six per cent despite profits falling to £1.1 million.

The company, which has a factory and shop in Newtown and stores in Telford and Shrewsbury, said furniture and clothing sales were up 9.3 per cent and 8.2 per cent respectively.

Bosses said it was a positive start to the second half of the financial year despite a fall in profits from £4.7 million last year, which they explained was due to £5.5 million of currency exchange losses.
