Road work under way

Wednesday 9th September 2009, 11:03AM BST.

Work has started on the removal of a filter lane on a busy Shrewsbury crossroads where a teenage cyclist died.

Campaigners have been pressing for improvements following the death last October of 14-year-old Ben Somers.

There has been a protest at the junction and calls for a lane to be removed to improve road safety.

The work to remove the filter lane could take until Friday to complete, depending on weather conditions.

The crossroads will remain open during the scheme to minimise any possible disruption to traffic.
