Man dies after wounding

Wednesday 9th September 2009, 2:00PM BST.

A man in his 40s died in hospital after being wounded at a house in Bridgnorth, police revealed today.

Detectives were today quizzing a woman in her 30s following the incident which happened at a house in Ash Road. Police said the man, who has not been named, suffered a puncture wound to his chest in the incident.

A post mortem examination was carried out yesterday on the man, but relatives have yet to formally identify the body and police said they lived some distance from Bridgnorth.

Inspector Mark Hatton, of West Mercia Police, said: “Police were called to an address in Bridgnorth following a report that a man had suffered a puncture wound to his chest. Officers attended, along with ambulance staff, at 6.10pm on Monday.

“The man was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford where he was pronounced dead a short time later.”

Police spokesman Richard Ewels said a woman in her 30s was arrested in connection with the incident and she was still in custody helping police with their inquiries.

Mr Ewels said the death was not being treated as a murder but inquiries were on-going.

He said: “The coroner for south Shropshire, Mr Anthony Sibcy, has been informed and a post mortem was carried out yesterday by a Home Office pathologist.

“I believe the family lives some distance away but it is hoped they will be able to formally identify the body tomorrow.

“An inquest will be opened in due course, either on Friday or possibly early next week.”

Police were still at the semi-detached council home today.

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “Everyone is really shocked by what’s happened. They seemed like such a normal family unit.

“They are a young family and have only been in the house for just over a month.”

Another neighbour said: “There were loads of police here on Monday night.

“I know of the family but I don’t really know much about them because they have only just moved into the area. There have been all sorts of rumours.”
