Daly planning a Mighty open day
Wednesday 9th September 2009, 10:09AM BST.
Shropshire’s top National Hunt trainer Henry Daly will give race fans a rare insight into his operation by throwing his stables open to the public.
Daly will host the special open day – in aid of the Midlands Air Ambulance – at his Downton Hall base near Ludlow on Saturday, September 19.
The main attraction will be a parade of horses at 12 noon, when fans will be able to get up close to stars including Mighty Man and Possol, with commentary provided by Channel 4′s Alistair Down.
Mighty Man in particular, has proved Daly’s stable star in recent years – winning the Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree twice as well as the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot.
The staying hurdler ruptured a tendon at the 2007 Punchestown Festival but has since launched a successful comeback.
Other attractions will include demonstrations by various experts on the behind the scenes work at the yard – vets, blacksmiths and equine dentist.
Gates will open at 10.30am and entry will cost £5 per person (under-16s free). Further information from 01584-873688.
