Council blog has one message in five months

A Shropshire town council blog set up to engage with residents has had only one message posted on it – in five months.

The Bishop’s Castle Town Council blog was set up in April this year.

One post was made on April 6, asking whether there should be more parking restrictions in the town.

The message received only three comments in response.

Bishop’s Castle Town Council’s website is still advertising the blog, despite the lack of activity. The website says the blog is in the “trial” phase and informs readers that posts will be moderated and may not appear immediately.

Bishop’s Castle mayor Keith Pinches said: “I’m not the best person to talk about it because it was set up before I was mayor, but we don’t seem to be using it much.”

The mayor said he would like the blog to be used more than it is, but said people didn’t seem to know it existed, despite being advertised on the town council website.

The blog was set up on behalf of the town council by Mike Ashwell who also set up the council’s website. Councillor Jane Carroll said: “The blog was my idea.

“There’s no reason why we shouldn’t keep it going.”

Councillor Steve Farr, who moderates the blog, said: “It isn’t being used very much but we are open to ideas. It’s not just there for the town council.”
