Robinson: Town will get it right
Tuesday 8th September 2009, 2:28PM BST.
Jake Robinson insists Shrewsbury Town’s new-look squad are beginning to gel – and is confident that will soon be represented in their points tally.
Robinson was one of 10 summer recruits made by Paul Simpson in the wake of last season’s play-off final defeat.
A mixed start has followed with Shrewsbury accumulating eight points from their opening six games.
But Robinson has been encouraged by recent signs, including the performance in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Bradford on Saturday.
“At the start of the season we would have wanted a few more points from the first six games so we are a bit disappointed in that respect,” admitted the former Brighton forward.
“But the performances are starting to kick on now and things are starting to gel and knit together.
“If we carry on like Saturday, we will win more than we lose and pick up some good points along the way.”
Robinson admitted is determined to force his way back into the starting XI having spent the last three games making cameo appearances from the bench after being left out following the 5-0 defeat at Dagenham three weeks ago.
And he strengthened his case for selection by scoring two goals for the reserves in their 3-0 win away at West Bromwich Albion last night.
Andre Grey was also on target for a second string that included first team squad players Kevin McIntyre, Kris Bright and Lewis Neal.
“It’s been very disappointing (to be left out),” added Robinson, who hit the target in both of Town’s first two games of the season.
“It could have been anyone of 11 players the manager dropped after Dagenham and unfortunately one of them was me.
“All I can do is work hard in training and try and show what I can do when I get my chance.
“I’m staying sharp – I don’t want to get my chance and then not be ready.”

Jake should be in the starting line-up this Saturday to partner Hibbert.
He has got skill and pace – something we are sorely lacking.

The right back position leaves a lot to be desired. Where is the pace and Holden seems to be turned to easily. Why leave Robinson out of the starting lineup on Saturday? is Simpson another tinkerman?
