Postmistress suspended
Monday 7th September 2009, 3:31PM BST.
A Shrewsbury post office has been closed and its subpostmistress “precautionarily” suspended following a routine audit.
Greenfields Post Office, which is run by Rubbina Shaheen, was shut by Post Office Ltd following the audit and customers have been met with a sign on the door informing them that it is closed until further notice.
Subpostmistress Mrs Shaheen has been precautionarily suspended pending further inquiries, and Post Office Ltd said it was working to get services reinstated.
A Post Office Ltd spokesman said: “Greenfields Post Office has been temporarily closed following a routine audit.
“The subpostmistress has been precautionarily suspended pending further inquiries.
“We would like to apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused by the closure. We are working hard to reinstate post office services as quickly as possible.”
News of the temporary closure comes just over a year after Mrs Shaheen fought with community support to keep the branch open.
Mrs Shaheen today said she did not want to make any comment until further inquiries had been carried out.
