Lifeline buses for Shrews fans

Saturday 5th September 2009, 9:00AM BST.

Shrewsbury Town fans who were hit with the loss of two supporters’ buses have been handed a lifeline after it was revealed today that a new service will start next week.

ShrewsTRUST, the club’s official supporters trust, is to launch a new supporters bus starting with the Crewe Alexandra game on September 12.

The bus will take in the Beacon in Copthorne, and the Red Barn on Longden Road, Coleham initially, with the possibility of other venues being added.

The Trust currently co-ordinates fans buses from the Prince of Wales, Dun Cow, and The Beeches. This bus will partially replace the successful Inn On The Green bus.

The service from the pub in Radbrook ceased after last month’s home match against Burton Albion.

In July it was announced that the Oxon Park & Ride bus used by some supporters to get to games at the ground, and subsidised by the club, was scrapped because it cost too much.

Adrian Plimmer, media officer for ShrewsTRUST, today said: “We’ve been looking for a replacement service from this part of town following the Inn On The Green closure, and following conversations with the landlords of The Beacon and The Red Barn we are pleased to announce that we will be running a bus from these locations.”

For more contact the Red Barn on (01743) 362503 or The Beacon on (01743) 344286.

Bit of a sensationalist headline isn’t it?

    “LIFELINE buses for Shrewsbury fans”???!!

Yes, Shrewsbury Town’s new ground isn’t quite as accessible as it used to be, but surely there are taxis and buses that serve nearby areas from where one could – presumably – walk for a few minutes to the ground? I would have thought those with mobility issues would already have their own arrangements in place, so is this really such a massive issue that buses are called LIFELINES?

The football ground is HARDLY in the middle of nowhere!

Honestly. Talk about over-dramatization. Tsk Tsk.
