Town to home in on pacesetters

Friday 4th September 2009, 12:06PM BST.

Paul SimpsonPaul Simpson today urged Shrewsbury Town to make the most of their home double-header and propel themselves into the higher echelons of League Two.

Town begin a run of back-to-back outings at the Prostar Stadium with the visit of Bradford tomorrow, before entertaining Crewe a week later.

It is the first time Shrewsbury have had the luxury of successive League home games this season, and Simpson is determined to see his side take full advantage.

“I have looked on enviously at the teams which played their first game away because they had two home games straight away,” said manager Simpson.

“But our chance comes now and we know if we do it properly and get two good results, we will find ourselves right up there.

“Bradford have had a lot of changes over the summer and have a lot of younger players, and they are on a decent little run of form.

“But if we perform as we can, I’m confident we can get a good result.”

Town enter the game with just 18 fit squad members with Chris Neal, Glyn Garner, Craig Disley, Mick Jackson, Omer Riza and Terry Dunfield all sidelined by long-term injuries.

But Simpson is refusing to dwell on those setbacks as his team chase a third victory of the campaign.

“All we can do with the injuries is treat them as best we can to get the lads back as quickly as possible,” added Simpson. “All the lads who are fit know they are going to be involved in the 18 tomorrow and the players will be told the team today.”

Shrewsbury, who have revealed they will introduce goal music tomorrow, will also learn the identity of their opponents in the Johnstone Paint Trophy in the morning.

They are in the north west section for the second round draw – after receiving a bye through the first stage – which will be shown live on Soccer AM on Sky Sports.

Their potential opponents are Accrington Stanley, Bury, Carlisle, Macclesfied, Port Vale, Stockport and Tranmere.
