Housing scheme set to be unveiled

Friday 4th September 2009, 10:31AM BST.

Plans for a major housing project to the south east of Oswestry as well as a new link road will be unveiled at a public consultation event next week.

The proposals for a “sustainable urban extension” between Shrewsbury Road, Middleton Road and the Oswestry bypass will be revealed at talks to discuss Shropshire Council’s new planning policy document for the area.

The Core Strategy document will shape the development of Oswestry over the next 20 years.

The plans would create a new neighbourhood with a mix of uses.

The urban extension would also include the development of a new link road between Middleton Road and Shrewsbury Road.

The plans will be outlined to the public during a meeting at the Council Chamber in Castle View on Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm.

The event will give local people the opportunity to find out more about the draft strategy and to ask questions.

Other proposals in the draft strategy include making the best use of previously developed land and buildings for housing and other uses within the built up area, where suitable sites exist.

Council bosses are also looking at the further development of other smaller and medium scale greenfield sites to meet needs for housing and employment land, as required, whilst maintaining Oswestry’s distinctive character and quality.
