Biomass burner approved

Friday 4th September 2009, 3:54PM BST.

Controversial plans for a £5 million biomass burner in a Shropshire town have been approved.

Bishop’s Castle Biomass Power Limited today welcomed a planning inspector’s decision to grant it planning permission to build and operate the plant in Bishop’s Castle in south Shropshire, following an eight day inquiry held in March and April.

The new combined heat and power plant, fuelled by locally sourced wood chips and wood-energy crops, will generate 2.5 megawatts of electricity – enough to supply 2,500 houses in Bishop’s Castle and surrounding villages.

Its good to end the week with such good news! More jobs to be created locally and a much needed boost to the economy.

Whats more, its carbon neutral! Locally grown crops and wood chippings being burnt… fantastic news for farmers too!

im glad, this shows why local people and local councils cannot be allowed to deternmine energy projects if we truly wish to see the UK go low carbon, all locals are nimbys, an independant expert judgement like this should be used in all cases of incineration, wind turbines etc, this would cut out billions of pounds of beurocracy and attract green energy businesses to the Uk
