Swop your spare produce here
Thursday 3rd September 2009, 7:00AM BST.
We’re looking for gardeners who have ended up with too much home-grown produce. Don’t let it go to waste; swop it here.
Simply email us with your details and what you have to swop, and we’ll put you in touch with other people in the same boat.
In an ideal world you’ll all live fairly close by and you can easily arrange a time and a date to exchange your produce.
New offers include:
- Martyn Vincent, of Wellington, has “lots of juicy damsons available. We’ll happily swap for eggs, carrots or potatoes (including’sweet potatoes).” Call him on 01952 255416.
- Amanda, from Uffington, on the east side of Shrewsbury, has lots of eating apples (but you can also cook with them). They were home grown without pesticides. She would be happy to swop for vegetables, and is happy to meet fellow swoppers halfway. “Such a great idea,” she adds. You can contact her at Darren@renovation.net43.co.uk
- Carolyn Robinson, of Tilstock, is offering eggs. “Ours are free range, gm free and we would love to swop for fruit or veg.” Carolyn can be contacted at: parkdale1@tiscali.co.uk
- Susan, in Hollinwood, Whixall, said: “Great idea. We’ve got a surplus of fabulous organic garlic, discovery apples, anya potatoes, flat beans and french beans. Would swap for plums, peas, lettuce, basil, carrots, cauliflower etc.” Susan can be contacted at susan_rainbow@hotmail.com
- Natelie Depledge, who lives between Whitchurch and Wem. She emailed to say: “What a fantastic idea. I have the following to swop, all homegrown and organic: red cabbage, savoy cabbage, potatoes, green beans and onions. I would love to swop for organic fruit/veggies.” Natelie can be contacted at Natelie.Depledge@veolia.co.uk
- Vivian Hancock, of Burlton, who has buckets full of small-ish apples. She also has plenty of runner beans to exchange. To find out more contact her on 01939 270219

I agree with John English.

I don’t want to be a pedant but it’s embarrassing when you spell swop wrongly. It should be swap!

Our style guide tells us to use ‘swop’, not ‘swap’. Either is correct according to the Collins English Dictionary.

Brilliant idea – we’ve been doing this in my local for about 12 months now – they are some gardeners who bring us vegetables and one gentleman who brings me eggs for the price of a pint of bitter!

i think SWOP is the US spelling, SWAP is UK, but as you say either is technically correct english

I’ve got plenty of horse manure for those gardners.

Definitely should be ‘swap’, from Middle English ‘swappen’, which means to strike, strike the hands together in closing a bargain.
Nice idea with the veg though.
