A 39-year-old man has been jailed for four months after he admitting assaulting a man and a woman.

Mark Andrew Smith, of Atherton Close, Cleobury Mortimer, appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday.

He admitted assaulting Sean Woodhouse and Sarah Hill on April 12 this year and was sentenced to four months on each charge to run concurrent to each other and concurrent to a sentence he is currently serving following a conviction for sexual offences in 2006.

Mr Mark Sharman, prosecuting, said: “On Saturday April 11 the injured party Sean Woodhouse had been to the Lion Pub in Cleobury Mortimer, he had attended a wake.

“He left the pub in the early hours of the morning and returned home in a very drunken state. He says he went to bed but he had not locked the back door. Sarah Hill was woken by the presence of the defendant. Mr Woodhouse got out of bed and was thrown downstairs by the defendant. Sarah was pinned down on the bed until she managed to struggle free. This awoke others in the house who manhandled the defendant out of the house.”

Mr Mike Sherwood-Smith, for Smith, said his client had been asked to help Mr Woodhouse home from the pub because he was too drunk. He said he had been invited into the house.
