Police in plea over knifeman
Wednesday 2nd September 2009, 4:00PM BST.
Police today issued an e-fit picture of a man who attacked a young woman in Shrewsbury and held a knife to her throat as she walked home.
The 17-year-old escaped injury after breaking free and running off.
Police hope a public appeal will help them trace the knifeman. Detective Constable Dave Parker said: “This was a terrifying ordeal.
“It was a completely unprovoked assault on a young woman walking home.”
He said the incident happened at about 12.45am on Sunday in Drinkwater Street, Frankwell.
“The man walked up to her and put a knife to her throat telling her to be quiet,” said Mr Parker.
“He took hold of her arm but fortunately she was able to pull free when he loosened his grip and ran off.”
The man is white, 50 to 60 years old, of stocky build with a chubby face and spoke with a local accent.
He was wearing a black Beanie-style hat, a donkey jacket and dark coloured trousers and shoes.
Witnesses are asked to call Shrewsbury police on 03003 333000 with information.
