Vandal attack on school
Tuesday 1st September 2009, 4:00PM BST.
A Telford school was targeted by vandals, who broke in and caused thousands of pounds of damage.
Forensic officers were combing the grounds of Holmer Lake County Primary School in Brookside today after the damaged was discovered at 6.30am.
It is thought that the school was targeted sometime over the bank holiday weekend.
A wooden fence surrounding the grounds was demolished, extensive damage was caused to the roof and toilet block and the verandah of a play house in the grounds was also destroyed.
Officers are also investigating whether valuable lead was stripped from the roof of the school building during the incident.
Investigating officers are hoping raiders will have left clues after the weekend rampage through the school, which is set to open again this week after the summer holidays.
Police have issued an appeal to anyone who noticed anything suspicious around the area of the school to contact them.
“We are appealing for witnesses who may have seen anything or anyone acting suspiciously around the school between 1.30am on Saturday and early this morning,” said Chris Ammonds, a spokesman for Telford Police.
“Forensic teams are checking the school grounds to see if the vandals left any clues or footprints, which we hope will lead us to the offenders.”
