Raiders target royals’ county home
Tuesday 1st September 2009, 5:30AM BST.
Two would-be burglars bit off more than they could chew when they targeted one of Britain’s most protected properties – the Shropshire home of Princes William and Harry.
Police have confirmed weekend reports that two men targeted the secluded residence in the bungled raid and were later arrested.
The men were cautioned for conspiracy to burgle the home of the Royal brothers who are learning to fly in the county at RAF Shawbury.
It is understood the raiders had no idea who was living at the home and mistook it for a soft target.
They were swiftly stopped by the Princes’ armed security within moments of sneaking into the grounds which are patrolled around the clock.
Richard Bull, West Mercia Police spokesman, said: “Two men were arrested at an unspecified address and were later cautioned for conspiracy to burgle.”
Neither Royal is believed to have been at the property when the hapless raiders struck, but both have been told about the incident.
Prince William, 27, has been living at the property since January when he began training as a helicopter pilot.
Prince Harry, 24, joined him in April when his training began.
The property’s location and the date of the incident have not been disclosed for security reasons.
