Collision rider still fighting for life

Tuesday 1st September 2009, 12:55PM BST.

A motorcyclist was still fighting for his life in hospital today after his bike collided with a car on a main road near Bridgnorth.

The man, who is in his 40s and has not been named, was initially airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham following the crash at Stanmore on the A458 Bridgnorth to Stourbridge road on Sunday.

He has since been transferred to the intensive care unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the city where his condition was today described as “poorly”.

He was riding a black Triumph Daytona 675cc bike travelling towards Stourbridge when he was involved in a collision with a red Honda Jazz car being driven in the opposite direction.

He was left with serious head and chest injuries following the head-on collision.

A woman driver involved in the crash at 11.50am on Sunday was treated for shock. Police today renewed their appeal for witnesses.

Richard Ewels, of West Mercia Police, said: “Anyone who saw the collision or the circumstances leading up to the crash is asked to contact Bridgnorth police on 0300 3333000.”

It was the second motorbike collision at the location in the space of 24 hours. Two people were also airlifted to hospital after their bike was in collision with a 4×4 car at Stanmore at 5.30pm on Saturday.

The rider, a man in his 20s, and his pillion passenger, a man in his 40s, suffered leg injuries. No-one from the 4×4 was injured.
