Town facing race for new recruits

Shrewsbury Town were today working towards bolstering their depleted ranks after an early-season injury crisis took a turn for the worse.
Midfield duo Craig Disley and Terry Dunfield are facing up to spells on the sidelines to take some of the gloss off a weekend in which Shrewsbury secured an impressive 3-1 away victory at Accrington Stanley.
Disley was forced off midway through the second half at the Crown Ground with what is believed to be medial ligament damage to his knee.
And Dunfield is facing three-months out after dislocating his shoulder during training on Friday.
With Chris Neal, Omer Riza and Mike Jackson already ruled out of action for at least a month, Town are down to 18 fit first team squad members – four of which are first year professionals.
Town have until 5pm tomorrow night to complete permanent signings, although they can continue to loan players beyond that deadline.”I must have run over a black cat because the injuries are not good at the moment and we are getting into a bit of a worrying situation,” said manager Paul Simpson.”They are all injuries we can’t do anything about but they are setting us back at the moment.”I’m now at a point where I have probably got 18 available players and we need to do something about it – if not before Tuesday then with loans.”ShockingDunfield suffered his sickening injury on Friday, when an ambulance was called to the training pitch to take him to hospital. An initial operation on Friday afternoon may now have to be followed by more surgery, depending on tomorrow’s trip to the specialist.”It was shocking,” admitted Simpson. “It was just two players going together for a ball and it wasn’t a straight dislocation.”It was moved two ways – it popped out and to the side.”Terry was operated on Friday afternoon to put the shoulder back in.”He is going to see a specialist on Tuesday and the likelihood is that he will need another operation but, at this stage, we are thinking it’s three months.”
