Man is sought after girl incident
Monday 31st August 2009, 11:55AM BST.
Police are trying to trace a man believed to be in his 50s or 60s, who approached a teenage girl in an incident in the early hours in Shrewsbury.
The police officers said they want to hear from witnesses after the man, who was wearing a dark Beanie-style hat, confronted the girl as she walked through Frankwell at about 12.45am yesterday.
“The girl was not injured in the incident, but was naturally upset to be confronted,” said a spokesman for West Mercia Police.
The man, who spoke with a local accent, is described as white, in his 50s or 60s and chubby with a chubby face.
He wore a dark, just-above-the-knee coat, dark trousers and dark shoes.
The spokesman said: “We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area between the given times and who believes that they have information that will help us to identify this man.
“There may be other people who believe they actually know who the man is from his description or knew that he was in the area at the time.”
The spokesman said that officers would be paying particularly close attention to the area during the remainder of the bank holiday period.
Police can be contacted on 0300 333 3000, quoting 54S/300809.
Information can also be given confidentially and free of charge to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
