Crowds flock to folk festival

Thousands of people from across the country were expected to flock to Shrewsbury today as the town’s sell-out Folk Festival begins.
The three-day showcase of the world’s best folk music, held at the West Mid Showground in Berwick Road, is one of a number of big events across Shropshire over the bank holiday weekend.
All 6,000 tickets for the event have been sold.
Alan Surtees, festival organiser, said: “We are looking forward to a fantastic festival and all the indications are that it is going to be a brilliant weekend.”
Among the top acts due to perform at this weekend’s are The Proclaimers, Eric Bibb, Seth Lakeman, The Dhol Foundation, Show of Hands, Chris Wood and Megson.
There will be sessions at pubs including The Wheatsheaf, The Brittania and The Bird in Hand.
