Corporal’s loopy record hope

Friday 28th August 2009, 11:33AM BST.

SD_5_Honington_Rehabilitation.jpgAn injured RAF serviceman hopes to set a new world record at Cosford next week – for the most number of loop-the-loops flown while drinking a cup of tea.

Corporal Stewart Hefti will attempt the unusual record at the RAF base near Telford on Thursday.

Corporal Hefti, who will fly as a passenger in a plane flown by former Red Arrows team leader Andy Offer, suffered life-threatening injuries in 2007 while serving in Iraq.

Despite serious leg injuries he battled to overcome them and fought again alongside RAF colleagues in Afghanistan this year.

RAF spokeswoman Rachel Huxford said: “Despite its light-hearted nature, the world record attempt aims to highlight the courage and tenacity of the UK’s injured military personnel, as well as the vital support work of the RAF Association.”

The record attempt has been organised as part of the association’s Brew for the Few programme. A series of fundraisers are being held across the country to raise money for the RAF Association’s work supporting both serving and ex-RAF personnel and their families.

The Brew for the Few initiative is named after Winston Churchill’s famous “never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few” speech, commemorating the bravery of RAF personnel in World War Two.

I hope there’s no sugar in it, can you imagine how sticky that will get as it gets splashed around.
Certainly not my cup of tea.
