A chance to get involved
Friday 28th August 2009, 8:00AM BST.
BTCV is the UK’s leading green volunteering charity, with the world’s largest team of volunteers operating locally throughout the UK and in 26 countries.

It makes a significant impact on the UK and International environment by inspiring 300,000 people to look after more than 50,000 places.
BTCV’s volunteering projects are a chance to get active, improve your fitness and well-being, and improve the local environment.
They offer free sessions of practical conservation activity, offering a chance to ‘work-out’ in the great outdoors (without a rowing machine in sight) and learn traditional skills with an experienced leader.
In Shropshire, volunteers with BTCV are helping develop Wyldwoods, an alternative education site for disadvantaged young people near Broseley where they can learn all about the natural environment, small animal care, arts and craft skills, gardening and other rural activities.
Volunteers work regularly at the site improving footpaths for young people with mobility issues, clearing scrub, creating gardens and constructing pens for small animals.
Improve
Throughout the year BTCV supports 300,000 green volunteers taking hands-on action to improve their urban and rural surroundings.
The charity’s slogan – ‘Inspiring people, improving places’ – reflects its aim to create better local environments where people from all cultures feel valued, included and involved.
Sir David Attenborough, a vice president of the charity, says, “Volunteering with BTCV brings together people from all walks of life and gives them a common purpose – to learn about, to understand and become part of the natural world.
“They volunteer not just because they want to bring about change to their local environment, but because it’s fun – it gets you outdoors, it makes you fit and you’re learning something new all the time. BTCV is working hard to make that happen.”
Honda has recently teamed up with BCTV to promote environmental activities happening near you.
They have created do-it.org.uk as part of the launch activity for its new Honda Insight hybrid car; one of the world’s most affordable hybrids.
Using the slogan ‘everyone wants to be good’ in its campaign, a sentiment Honda wholeheartedly believes in, they are making it easier for people to volunteer their time through www.doit.org.uk.
For every test drive booked for the new Honda Hybrid online JT Hughes of Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Telford or Newtown, Honda will contribute £5 towards BTCV.
Details of volunteering opportunities can also be found on www.shropshirestar.com/hondadoit and www.honda.co.uk or at www.btcv.org so to become a ‘doer’ and find opportunities in the local area, visit one of these websites or call BTCV direct on their information line on 01302 388 883.
If you live in the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin area and would like to get involved at Wyldwoods and other environmental projects that benefit the local community, contact Paul Coope on (01952) 254544 or email p.coope@btcv.org.uk
