Food festival to host top tastes of county
Thursday 27th August 2009, 9:32AM BST.
More than 130 independent producers will serve up a taste of Shropshire and the Marches to 20,000 visitors during the Ludlow Marches Food and Drink Festival.
Visitors to the annual event will also enjoy a packed programme of demonstrations and talks, a shopping arcade where they can buy local food and drink, the chance to see the county’s best chefs in action and the opportunity to vote for their favourite sausage.
Today Beth Heath, spokeswoman for Ludlow Marches Food and Drink Festival, said: “We’re really looking forward to this year’s event.
“Each year, the festival is improved with the addition of new events and more stall holders. We’ve got plenty of treats lined up for visitors who come to Ludlow.”
Phil Maile, the event’s boss, added: “We get plenty of visitors from far and wide, but we’d love more people from Shropshire.
“It celebrates produce from across the region and hopefully people from all parts of Shropshire will head to the town to enjoy a great three-day event.”
The festival runs from September 11 to 13 with events taking place in Ludlow Castle, the Market Square and around town.
Ludlow British Legion will host a beer tasting at its headquarters in Victory House, Mill Street, and the Broad Bean, in Broad Street, will give visitors the chance to taste food made with ingredients from the shop.
A series of talks will be organised, Ludlow’s 2008 Young Chef Winner Andy Thomas explains the future of local produce and Michelin-starred chef Chris Bradley creates perfect puddings.
Bridgnorth entrepreneur Louis Barnett will provide a demonstration on ethical chocolate, herb grower Stuart Phillips will explain flavour matching and Michelin-starred cook Will Holland will create his best dishes.
