accident_sign6A woman was airlifted to hospital with multiple fractures after a car and a van collided on a south Shropshire road.

Two men also suffered minor injuries and were treated at hospital following the crash on the A49 at Onibury near Craven Arms yesterday.

The road was closed for more than two hours after the collision at 1.20pm.

The woman is in a stable condition in hospital, police said today.

Claire Thomas, West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman, said the woman was found bleeding heavily.

She said: “A woman has been airlifted to hospital after she was injured in a road traffic collision yesterday afternoon.

“We received a call to say a car and a van had collided on the A49 near Craven Arms just before 1.30pm. A land ambulance, rapid response vehicle, incident support officer and the air ambulance all attended the scene.

“Crews arrived to find car and van with significant front end damage and a woman in the car, believed to be in her 60s, suffering from multiple fractures and bleeding heavily.

“She was treated and stabilised at the scene before being airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital, the region’s specialist trauma centre for further treatment and assessment.”

She said the two men – a driver and passenger in the van – suffered minor injuries.

“Two men from the van, both believed to be aged in their 40s suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene and at Ludlow Minor Injuries Unit,” she said.
