Villages axed from bus route

arriva-bus-in-bridgnorthResidents in two Shropshire communities will be cut off when changes to a bus route come into force next month, it was claimed today.

And it could mean people in the Grinshill and Sansaw Heath areas, near Wem, being forced to walk for up to a mile to a main road to catch the bus.

Changes to the 513 service from Shrewsbury to Whitchurch are due to come into force on September 6, meaning the service will no longer pick up from the two villages.

Arriva Buses bosses said “very little usage” was made by the two villages and Grinshill had only one person regularly using the bus. The number 513 will no longer be used and the route, excluding Grinshill and Sansaw Heath, will become part of the upgraded 511 route.

One resident from Grinshill said the villages would be “completely removed” from the public transport system.

Keith Myatt, Arriva spokesman, said: “The 511 will operate up to every 60 minutes day time, Monday to Saturday, between Shrewsbury, Clive, Wem, Higher Heath and Whitchurch and vice versa.”
