Shop worker stopped thief
Wednesday 26th August 2009, 11:30AM BST.
A Weston Rhyn shoplifter who stole Reebok trainers from an Oswestry store was apprehended when a member of staff gave chase, a court has heard.
Edward Airnes, 34, of Brookfield Close, admitted a theft from Sports Direct in Cross Street on August 11 when he appeared before Oswestry magistrates yesterday.
He was given a six-month community order and told to pay court costs of £60.
Mrs Becky Jones, prosecuting, said a security alarm sounded when Airnes left the shop and when he noticed he was being followed by a member of staff he started to run away.
The staff member caught up with him and took him back to the store. Airnes took out a £31 pair of trainers from the front of his trousers and he was arrested.
Mr Alun Williams, for Airnes, said he had been using heroin since he was 17 but was trying to get drug free.
