Road to close for repairs
Wednesday 26th August 2009, 12:40PM BST.
A main Shrewsbury road will be shut for up to eight nights over the next two months for resurfacing.
Abbey Foregate will be closed to traffic from the junction with Old Potts Way between September 28 and October 1.
It will again be closed from October 5 to the 8.
Shropshire Council officials today said the closures would take place between 6.30pm and 11pm to avoid traffic chaos.
Gary Parton, Shropshire Council’s co-ordination manager for central, said: “We will be starting a resurfacing programme on Abbey Foregate in Shrewsbury in September 2009.
“We have co-ordinated the work between the hours of 6.30pm and 11pm in order to minimise disruption to traffic as much as possible.
“The work is scheduled for September 28 to October 1 and October 5 to 8.
“These dates include a contingency for weather and unforeseen circumstances and are not anticipated to last for all of these dates. Signed diversion routes will be in place to direct traffic.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience these essential works may cause, and would like to assure people that we will be working to complete them as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile, Leaton level crossing, near Shrewsbury, is due to be closed overnight from 10.30pm on Saturday until 10am on Sunday so Network Rail can carry out essential track maintenance.
Mr Parton said a signed diversion route would be put in place.

Just a thought, has anyone thought of checking with the other Utility companies that they have no plans to carry out work under the surface in this area in the near future before this work commences?
Yes, Oh good.
