Fire crews pull a jacket from the River Severn today

The body of a man was pulled from the River Severn in Shrewsbury today.

Emergency services carried out a search of the river at Smithfield Road after reports that a man had been spotted in the water.

Maria Hawkaluk, spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said the man was pronounced dead at the scene and police were treating the death as “unexplained”.
