Quiet village marks anniversary

fosters-thumb2The murder spree at Osbaston House shocked the nation and was headline news for weeks. It also plunged Maesbrook, a normally quiet corner of Shropshire, into the media spotlight.

The subsequent inquests and then the family’s funerals at the village’s St John’s Church kept Maesbrook in that spotlight.

Villagers said today they hoped the first anniversary of the deaths would be an opportunity for the village to move on.

Craig Gittins, landlord of the village’s Black Horse Inn pub, said: “The first anniversary will create some interest but locally people are just hoping to get on with things.”

One resident, who didn’t wish to be named, said: “Maesbrook is a quiet, gentle, neighbourly sort of place but whenever you mention it to people they talk about what happened. I think is time to move on and let them rest in peace. Hopefully the first anniversary will do that.”

And another resident said: “Since it happened we had all the media and we even had people coming through the fields to try to get to the back of Osbaston House. I don’t know if they were thieving or what.

“And you get people parking outside the church just to have a look at the graves. There are some sick people and it’s time for it all to stop.”

Time to put this story to rest, however as for the people going to the graves perhaps, allowing for the fact there are some decent people out there they wished to pay there respects for this poor family.

Well said Andrew to think like that is to behave like that?
