Foster family’s looting upset

fosters-thumb1The brother of murderer Christopher Foster today said people were failing to treat the remains of the Shropshire mansion with respect – a year to the day after the killings at the home.

Twelve months ago failed Shropshire businessman Christopher Foster killed his wife and daughter before setting his £1.1 million home at Maesbrook, near Oswestry, ablaze, killing himself.

Today his brother Andrew Foster spoke of his upset that looters were targeting the burned-out remains of Osbaston House.

His comments came as health and police chiefs revealed they are exploring options about the sharing of information between licensing authorities and GPs.

Recommendations were made after it emerged Foster’s own doctor had no idea he owned a gun after confiding about feeling suicidal.

Today Andrew Foster said: “It is obviously still very tragic what happened and I’m still trying to come to terms with what happened as well.”

He added: “There is looting at the property yes, obviously it is very upsetting. I haven’t seen anybody at the property myself but I was talking to a neighbour a couple of weeks ago and apparently a number of people seem to be visiting the property on a regular basis and loot whatever remains there.

“It has been reported to police and the local authority. There is nothing more we can do because it is not secure. It is 16 acres of open farmland. It belongs to the bank now.

“It is upsetting that people don’t treat the property with respect after what has happened.”

Earlier this year the coroner for Mid and North Shropshire, Mr John Ellery, ruled Foster killed his wife Jill and 15-year-old daughter Kirstie by shooting them in the head before setting fire to their luxury home and killing himself.

He said there were lessons to be learned about the sharing of information between licensing authorities and GPs.

Today he confirmed progress had been made following his recommendation to the police and British Medical Association.
