A terminally-ill Telford man has renewed his marriage vows in a fairytale wedding as he battles a second brain tumour.

Mark Walker-Clarke, who now lives on The Wirral, returned to the Telford church where he got married on Saturday to renew his wedding vows to his wife Kim.

They renewed their vows at St John the Evangelist’s Church, Lawley, with a Walt Disney-themed ceremony surrounded by friends and family, many in fancy dress.

Mr Walker-Clarke beat a brain tumour two years ago, but, after it returned, he has decided not to undergo treatment. Ray Gray, a close friend of the couple, said the wedding was an extremely emotional occasion.

He said: “I am a close friend of Kim and Mark, who are both deaf, and a very special couple. They renewed their wedding vows in tragic circumstances after 10 years of marriage in Telford on Saturday.

“Mark is very sick as he has a brain tumour, which was operated on a couple of years ago, but unfortunately has now returned.”

He said his friend had now decided not to go through the fight a second time and would await the inevitable.

“Mark has decided he will not go through the operation and chemotherapy again, with inevitable consequences,” he said.

“He was extremely brave battling it first time around and I think he just thought it may be too much to go through again.”

Mr Gray said the couple decided on a Disney theme because they wanted to make the occasion memorable for positive reasons.

“It should provide welcome remembrance for his children and wife to show the man he was, very brave and with great integrity,” he said. “Thankfully the sun shone down on us on the wedding day and everything went to plan, it was extremely moving and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house.

“They are a truly fantastic couple and the dozens of people who came down to Telford are wishing them all the very best in their remaining time together.”

Mr Gray said the couple did not receive any gifts and instead asked for donations to be made to the Children’s Hospice.
