Picture issued in rapist hunt
Tuesday 25th August 2009, 4:00PM BST.
Detectives today issued an artist’s impression of a rapist who subjected a young woman to a terrifying attack in Telford.
The victim, who is in her 20s, is still deeply traumatised by the attack two weeks ago today, but has been working with police ever since to help draw up a detailed picture of her attacker.
Detectives have praised the young woman’s courage and bravery in trying to recall as much about her attacker as she can.
The woman was attacked as she walked towards Randlay from Stafford Park, along a foot- path between the A442 Eastern Primary and the nearby Shifnal to Ironbridge railway line.
She was grabbed and dragged into woodland as she was about to cross a pedestrian footbridge over the A442 on August 11, at about 5pm.
Detective Chief Inspector Lee Davenport, who is leading the hunt for the rapist, said: “We have been working with the victim to produce this artist’s impression and I cannot praise her courage and bravery highly enough in terms of assisting us with our investigation.
“She remains traumatised by the nature of this assault and we are determined to do all we can to catch the man responsible for it.
“A team of officers is dedicated to this case and no stone will be left unturned in our search for the offender.
“I would ask anyone who believes they recognise the man from the artist’s impression to come forward with that information so we can follow up on it. As well as releasing this image, I’d also like to remind people of the earlier description the victim has given us of the man responsible for this assault.”
Mr Davenport said the woman described her attacker as white, about 6ft, aged 20 to 35, of thin build and with “pock marks” or acne scarring on his face. He was wearing a light-coloured T-shirt and tracksuit bottoms.
He said: “I’d like to reassure the community we are continuing to do all we can to trace the man responsible for this assault.”
He added: “Anyone who believes they may have possible information that could be useful to our investigation, no matter how insignificant it may seem, is asked to call CID in Telford on 0300 333 3000.”
