Drayton ready to tackle the titans
Tuesday 25th August 2009, 11:58AM BST.
Boss Simon Line is looking forward to Market Drayton Town’s biggest game of the UniBond League season tonight, declaring: “It shows how far we’ve come.”
Drayton host Witton Albion – one of the biggest names in non-League football outside the Conference – in the first division south contest at Greenfields (7.45pm).
It is a big challenge for the north Shropshire side, who lost 5-1 at home to Grantham in their opener but have won two away games since then.
“It’s amazing to think we’re playing Witton in a league game,” said Line.
“I remember watching them at Telford a couple of years ago when I was invited by Wyn Pryce (the Telford director, whose son Andy plays in goal for Drayton).
“It was a great game between two non-League titans, so it’s incredible to be playing one of them in a league game and we’re so looking forward to it.”
Witton’s line-up is likely to include former Telford striker Steve Foster, who cost the Bucks £3,000 but was released in May 2007.
Foster actually scored for Telford in the play-off final that season – ironically against Witton.
