prh-princess-royal-hospital-top2A man suffered serious facial injuries after being involved in a fight in a Telford nightclub. The victim had his jaw broken in two places when he was attacked during the “altercation”.

He  was today being treated in Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital following the assault yesterday morning.

Police said the 23-year-old man, who has not been named, but is from the town, today remained in hospital under observation by medical staff.

It was understood he will have to undergo an operation as part of the treatment for his serious facial injuries.

Chris Ammonds, Telford police spokesman, said today the victim’s jaw had been broken on both sides of his face and had resulted in him losing a number of teeth.

He said detectives were still waiting to get a detailed account from the victim about what happened but will be examining CCTV footage from inside The Office nightclub in Market Street, where the attack happened between 2.20am and 2.35am yesterday.

Bouncers intervened in the dispute, which, Mr Ammonds said, had turned into a “physical altercation”, before police were called.

An 18-year-old man was arrested a short time after the attack and was questioned by detectives. He has since been released on bail pending further inquiries  and will have to return to a police station at a later date.

It is believed there may have been a number of people in the vicinity at the time of the incident.

Mr Ammonds said police wanted to hear from people who may have seen anything happen before the attack, which could prove key to helping their investigation.

Anyone who can help or witnesses should contact police at Telford on 0300 333 3000.
