Club’s Ryan is silenced
Monday 24th August 2009, 1:15PM BST.
Shrewsbury Town Football Club announcer Ryan Jervis was silenced for the first time in 32 years when the public address system packed in.
Mr Jervis said he had been unable to deliver supporters’ messages, half-time scores and team line-ups.
“It was a bit like a mortuary, but some people were probably glad of the peace and quiet,” he said.
Town general manager Jon Harris said the PA system was affected by a power cut on Friday which also hit nearby traffic lights.
