Winger’s fee still up in air for Town
Saturday 22nd August 2009, 12:35PM BST.
Shrewsbury Town are being forced to play a waiting game to learn whether they will receive compensation for Chris Humphrey’s summer departure to Motherwell, writes JAMES GARRISON.
With Humphrey being under 24 and out of contract, Town should be entitled to a fee under the Bosman Ruling.
But the situation is clouded by the fact the winger has moved to a club governed by a different Football Association.
“It’s an on-going matter, it’s in the hands of lawyers and we are waiting to hear about it,” he said.
“They believe we are not entitled to compensation and we believe that we are.”
Meanwhile, Simpson has revealed he will be prepared to use the loan market after the end of August to bolster his squad if necessary.
Football League clubs have a further nine days to sign permanent players before the transfer window closes.
Beyond that they are able to bring players in on loan, something Simpson hasn’t ruled out.
“There were players I enquired about but they won’t happen at this moment in time so we just have to wait and see what comes over the next few weeks,” he said.
“We are not like the Premier League, where the transfer window closes and they can’t do anything.
“We are still in a position where we can do loans and if we have to, that is what we will look at.”
